There are several 2009 sport events that are worth attending.

While it isn’t an Olympic year, there are still events for people to plan for and visit.

Major sport events include:

the Asia Indoor Games,
the European Indoor Championships,
the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Asia Indoor Games

The third Asia Indoor Games will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in November of 2009.

The Asia Indoor Games is a multi-sport event held every two years among athletes representing Asian countries and is regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. The first such set of games was held in 2005.

The games will consist of six to eight exciting sports, including electronic sports, extreme sports, aerobics, acrobatics, dance sports, inline hockey, swimming and indoor athletics along with a 25 meter, short-course in swimming.

European Indoor Championships

These Sport Games will take place in Turin, Italy, March of 2009.

These will be the 30th showing of the European Indoor Championship Games.

These are biennial games involving indoor sports and indoor athletes from all European countries such as:

France
England
Italy
Germany
Spain
Portugal
Switzerland
Etc.

2009 FIFA Confederations Cup

The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held in South Africa in June of 2009.

The FIFA Confederations Cup is held every four years and is a football (soccer) tournament for national teams. It is played by the winners of the six FIFA confederation championships along with the FIFA World Cup champion and the host country, making the total number of contenders to eight. If the World Cup winner is also the winner of one of the confederations, then the World Cup runner-up is also considered for the tournament.

The tournament was originally organized by and held in Saudi Arabia and was called the King Fahd Cup, contested in 1992 and 1995. It was only after 1997 that FIFA took over the organization of the tournament and renamed it, allowing for it to be staged every 2 years. It was changed to once every four years, always one year prior to each World Cup in the host country of the forthcoming World Cup. The Confederations Cup is considered a dress-rehearsal for the World Cup held after it.
